How have you owned your growth at OnDeck?
When I started at OnDeck, things were very much the wild west in technology. Everyone did things their own way, without many shared standards. At first, I worked to put in place an efficient process for software development. Once I had good results there, I shared it out to the rest of tech and through some serious lobbying, was able to affect change within other teams.  This was the first step in progressing my career at OnDeck: I started doing the work of the next level position. Then, when the opportunity arose for me to take a step up, it was a shorter step. Nature abhors a vacuum so where there’s space, you should fill it and do your best. The rest will follow. 

What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
You can’t talk tech to everyone. You must communicate with people in terms they understand, otherwise you won’t be effective in the long run. Answer what and why, and only delve into the more technical how when it’s necessary.
